AVPN and the ASEAN Foundation have joined forces to equip micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Southeast Asia with practical AI skills through the AI for MSME Advancement program. This initiative aims to empower MSMEs, which constitute approximately 97% of businesses and contribute nearly 45% to the region’s GDP, by enabling them to leverage AI tools for improving their operations. The program focuses on hands-on training tailored to local contexts, helping small business owners utilize AI to streamline processes, enhance online sales, and manage finances more effectively. Given MSMEs’ pivotal role in employment and economic growth across ASEAN, the partnership addresses a significant need to modernize business practices through technology adoption. By democratizing AI education and support, AVPN and the ASEAN Foundation are helping to bridge the digital divide and stimulate inclusive economic advancement. This initiative complements a broader regional push toward digital transformation and AI integration within small businesses, which face challenges in accessing and implementing advanced technologies. Supporting MSMEs with AI capabilities can boost competitiveness, efficiency, and market reach, fostering sustainable growth in Southeast Asia’s diverse economies. The collaboration exemplifies an important strategy for regional development agencies to harness AI’s potential at the grassroots level, contributing to broader innovation and economic resilience in the ASEAN community.
