FIS has finalized its $13.5 billion acquisition of Global Payments’ Issuer Solutions business, formerly known as TSYS, marking a significant expansion in its financial technology offerings. This strategic purchase enhances FIS’ portfolio by integrating a robust suite of credit processing, fraud detection, loyalty, and other value-added services alongside its existing debit processing, network services, payments processing, and banking solutions. The deal creates a comprehensive, end-to-end platform that serves a wide range of financial institutions and corporate clients across more than 75 countries.
Following the acquisition, FIS has introduced Agentic Commerce, an innovative AI-driven solution designed to enable autonomous transactions. Utilizing artificial intelligence, this technology acts as a personal digital assistant capable of sourcing, negotiating, and executing purchases or financial transactions on behalf of customers, using pre-approved payment methods. This advancement positions banks at the center of evolving commerce by leveraging AI, data, and the large-scale infrastructure of FIS to facilitate secure, seamless, and autonomous financial activities.
The acquisition not only broadens FIS’ market presence but also accelerates the company’s AI strategy by integrating intelligent automation into commerce workflows. This move reflects a growing trend in fintech where AI-driven agentic commerce solutions empower financial institutions to offer enhanced, personalized customer experiences while reinforcing security and regulatory compliance. Overall, the deal solidifies FIS’s position as a leader in combining traditional financial services with advanced AI capabilities to innovate in the fast-changing payments landscape.
