This year’s Young Scientist Exhibition in Dublin showcases the practical potential of artificial intelligence, with over 1,000 students presenting 550 projects that span various disciplines. Notably, about a quarter of these projects focus on AI applications, highlighting the technology’s growing importance in education and scientific research. Students are exploring diverse real-world challenges, from enhancing educational tools and developing AI-enabled glasses to assist people with dementia, to investigating complex scientific concepts such as dark matter. This broad range of topics emphasizes AI’s versatility and its transformative role across multiple fields.
The exhibition serves as a critical platform for young innovators to practically demonstrate AI’s capabilities beyond theoretical concepts, addressing societal and scientific needs through creative solutions. Given that thousands of proposals compete for selection, with only around 500 projects displayed, the concentration of AI-focused work underscores a national trend toward integrating AI into problem-solving and innovation.
