India’s Rural Development Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has strongly accused the Congress party of using AI-generated videos and deceptive letters to mislead the public regarding the VB-G RAM G Act, a rural employment scheme introduced by the central government. According to Chouhan, the misinformation campaign initiated by Congress not only spreads falsehoods about the policy but also attempts to hinder the government’s objective of rural development. The VB-G RAM G Act, launched in 2025, is designed to replace the earlier MGNREGA framework with a model aimed at aligning rural employment schemes with the long-term vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047.” It emphasizes accountability, local infrastructure development, and income security by empowering gram panchayats to decide work projects instead of state governments.
Chouhan contrasted the new approach with MGNREGA, which he described as a demand-driven model with limited local involvement. He warned that opposition from several parties, notably Congress, is fueled by misinformation rather than facts. The use of AI in creating misleading content marks a worrying trend in political communication, raising concerns about the ethical use of emerging technologies in shaping public opinion. The minister’s remarks highlight the growing role of AI-generated media in political narratives and the importance of vigilance to prevent such tools from distorting policy discourse or eroding public trust.
