Delhi launches India’s first city-centric AI innovation movement to prepare students

The Delhi government has launched “Delhi AI Grind,” India’s first city-centric Artificial Intelligence innovation movement aimed at equipping students with essential AI skills for the future. This large-scale initiative targets over 500,000 students across more than 1,000 schools, colleges, ITIs, and universities within the National Capital Territory, transforming classrooms into innovation labs focused on real-life problem-solving using AI technologies. Education Minister Ashish Sood emphasized that the program aligns with India’s AI Decade strategy, a national push to develop a robust AI ecosystem.

Delhi AI Grind aims not only to foster AI proficiency but also to promote structured innovation, problem-solving, youth leadership, and responsible technology use. Over four months, it plans to train 5,000 teachers as certified AI mentors, support the development of 1,000 student-led AI prototypes, and select 50 AI Youth Ambassadors. Additionally, the initiative will culminate in publishing a National Innovation Compendium featuring innovative ideas from Delhi’s young talent.

This movement represents a strategic model for integrating AI education at the city level, promoting civic participation and translating technological advancements into community benefits. Positioned as a living laboratory for AI and civic problem-solving, Delhi AI Grind aims to inspire similar urban AI education initiatives across India, reinforcing Delhi’s role as a hub for AI innovation aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
