Malaysia is strategically advancing its digital and AI landscape throughout 2025 to position itself for economic resilience and global competitiveness in 2026. Central to this effort is the country’s focused adoption of artificial intelligence technologies supported by investments in digital infrastructure and a robust innovation ecosystem. The government’s initiatives align with its broader AI Nation 2030 vision, emphasizing responsible AI governance, ethics, and workforce readiness. This includes significant budget allocations to accelerate digital transformation, such as the commissioning of a Sovereign AI Cloud and grants to support AI-driven projects.
The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) is spearheading the National AI Action Plan 2026–2030, crafting a strategic framework for AI integration across sectors like finance, manufacturing, education, and government services. The plan also involves key institutions — including the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Malaysia Board of Technologists, and major universities — working collaboratively to promote AI literacy and data governance, enhancing the country’s innovation capacity and workforce skills.
Additionally, infrastructure investments, such as undersea cable projects, underpin Malaysia’s ambition to establish itself as a digital and AI hub in Southeast Asia. These efforts collectively aim to strengthen Malaysia’s economic competitiveness and foster a sustainable, tech-driven future by embedding AI across multiple layers of the economy, thus ensuring the nation is well-positioned as it enters 2026.
