Agra Police solved a challenging murder investigation with the crucial aid of artificial intelligence (AI) after an unidentified woman’s body was found on the Yamuna Expressway. The victim, later identified as Sonali, was discovered wrapped in a blanket beside the highway with no identification documents or clues that could reveal her identity. Conventional investigative methods initially failed to provide answers. To overcome this hurdle, the police turned to AI-based facial reconstruction technology, which digitally recreated the woman’s face to help generate a recognizable image for the public and forensic experts. Following the AI-assisted identification, the police traced and arrested Sonali’s live-in partner, Sunny, who was charged with the murder and the subsequent attempt to conceal the crime by transporting and dumping her body on the expressway. This case highlights the transformative impact of AI tools in law enforcement, enabling authorities to resolve “cold” identifications and accelerate investigations that hinge on identifying unknown victims.
