India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in collaboration with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), is hosting a two-day conference focused on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to combat mule accounts that facilitate cybercrime-related money laundering. The event, titled “Tackling Cyber-Enabled Frauds & Dismantling the Ecosystem,” aims to address critical challenges in digital financial crimes by highlighting AI’s potential in the detection and prevention of fraudulent activities involving mule accounts. These accounts are often used to move illicit funds, making them a key component of cyber-enabled financial fraud.

The conference will dive into three main pillars underpinning organized cybercrime: financial systems, telecommunications infrastructure including SIM and eSIM technologies, and the broader cyber-fraud ecosystem. Emphasizing coordinated efforts, the event seeks to strengthen investigative frameworks by deploying AI-powered tools to identify suspicious patterns quickly and accurately, which traditional methods may miss.

By focusing on mule accounts, the CBI and I4C aim to disrupt complex money laundering schemes that contribute significantly to cybercrime. This initiative reflects a broader strategy to enhance India’s cybersecurity posture through advanced technology adoption and collaboration between agencies. The conference underscores the growing importance of AI in law enforcement’s evolving toolkit to tackle digital financial crimes effectively and safeguard the integrity of financial systems.
